The Town of Delmar Board heard from Chairman Dave Peterson at the August 19 meeting that the Boyd-Edson-Delmar Fire Department approved the purchase of a new fire pumper from S&R Truck for $597,9940 after a special meeting on August 12. Since 1973 S&R Truck, LLC in Marshfield has been a full-service provider for transportation tank sales, service, repair, and rebuild and parts.
“We had hoped to keep it under $600,000 and it’s right there,” said Peterson. He mentioned that the first payment for the new truck must be paid within forty days of signing it. Peterson shared that the chassis will come in separate at a cost of $124,000 when it arrives and the balance for the truck will be expected at the time of delivery which is currently expected to be in two years.
“All three towns, Boyd, Edson, Delmar, we’re all onboard and have it figured out how they’re going to pay for it,” said Peterson.
A Delmar resident asked if there would be a merger between the Stanley Fire Department and the Boyd-Edson-Delmar Fire Department. “Right now, the only agreement we made with Stanley is that Ron Patten can go help because he’s under contract with us. They’re a neighbor and we’re going to help them out.” He added, “We’re going to probably have some meetings with them and see where it can go. Maybe work together on some things.”
The resident expressed concern that he didn’t want to see the strength of the Boyd -Edson-Delmar Fire Department jeopardized.
Peterson commented on the Stanley Fire Department, “They got things to work out. I’d just as soon stay out of. We’re going to try to help them.” He explained that other than that they don’t have any other agreement with Stanley, but the Boyd Edson Delmar Fire Department will supply mutual aid if that is needed, and they don’t want the Stanley Fire Department to lose their license.
“We want them to keep their service, especially their first responders,” he commented. “It’s nice to have their first responders there to help load and even to sustain people until we get there.” He concluded, “Other than that, we have no agreements right now.”
The next Town of Delmar meeting will be held on September 16 at 8 p.m.
