Junior Library Champions Fair held August 24

Stanley-area kids put their ideas to work and pulled together to support the D.R. Moon Memorial Public Library’s campaign to restore and expand the library on Saturday, Aug. 24.
They expressed their love of the library by coming up with entrepreneurial ideas – from selling lemonade to jewelry – to raise money at the Junior Library Champions Fair. Members of the community stopped by on the sunny morning to support the young champion’s efforts, helping them raise $139.00 for the library.
The Junior Library Champions program gives kids a way to pitch in with the rest of the community to support the library project.
“The kids were very imaginative and super enthusiastic about doing what they can to support the project,” said Library Director Elizabeth Miniatt. “We appreciate their efforts and hope the rest of the community joins in with the same enthusiasm.”
The expanded library will be three times the size of the current 123-year-old facility, offer a new and expanded Children’s Area, meeting/study rooms, comfortable and quiet spaces for adults, and a fully equipped and technologically updated Community Room for programs, events, and gatherings. Importantly, it will also provide ADA accessible spaces that are currently lacking in the library, while preserving the building’s historic integrity.
“Stanley kids have a special love for the library and for reading. It’s been wonderful to see how they have taken ownership of this program to support the library, give back to the community, and build for the future,” Miniatt said.
The Junior Library Champions program is still in full swing, and details of how to take part can be found at the library. And for more information for adults on how to donate and make the project a reality, visit stanleylibrary.org/donate.
