Meeting Colby Friday August 23 in their first game of the season, the Stanley-Boyd Orioles came away with a win, defeating the Hornets 44-22. Orioles Head Coach Jeff Koenig shared thoughts after the score was tallied.
“The team played well overall,” said. “We have a lot of little things to clean up. Our pad level is high and we need to do a better job of keeping our feet moving on contact.”
Starting in the first quarter, the Orioles gained and maintained a point lead throughout, ending the first quarter 8-0, the second 23-6, the third 37-14, and the fourth 44–22. Colby added eight points as the clock ticked down but not enough to overcome the Orioles built up momentum.
Contributing to the final outcome was a strong Oriole defense, with Colby often having to throw long passes over to get through.
Among those playing key roles in Friday’s win against Colby were quarterback Carter Isenberger and wide receiver Madden Mahr. Senior running backs Jake LaGrander, Rudy Kletsch and Alex Williams also played an important role, taking the ball upfield and into the end zone for tochdowns. Sophomore Jesse Allard took position to kick field goals, assisted by Isenberger. Storm Tiry and Dylan Seichter as well as LaGrander all contributed to the Oriole defense as well.
Now 1-0 for the season thus far, the Orioles next game is Friday, August 30 against Cadott at Oriole Park. Game start is 7 p.m.
