Stanley-Boyd Staff Dedicate Bench at Oriole Park in Honor of Lakken Burzynski

Stanley-Boyd School faculty and staff dedicated a purple bench at Oriole Park in honor of Lakken Burzynski on August 28. High school science teacher Mary McIntire, who organized the dedication, shared that she wanted to do something meaningful for Lakken and her family who have influenced the Stanley-Boyd community in so many ways. As she spoke at the event, McIntire shared that Lakken made a profound impact on everyone she met during her life.
“Lakken’s influence was not measured by the years she lived, but by the depth of her spirit and the strength of her example,” she stated. She mentioned that Lakken overcame many obstacles while embodying positivity, committing to helping others and returning to Stanley-Boyd to inspire and support both students and teachers alike. Lakken was a guiding force, spurring others on to embrace each day. McIntire shared, “In her second battle with cancer, Lakken showed us how to ‘Live every day as if it were your last.’ Her courage and grace in the face of adversity were lessons in living fully and authentically. She faced life’s challenges head-on, setting an extraordinary example of perseverance and joy.” McIntire urged others to remember Lakken’s word and example as they go forward in their lives. She noted that Lakken’s remarkable family played a significant role in shaping her many inspiring qualities.
