An accident on North Broadway in Stanley Thursday, Sept. 12 left one person with minor injuries and two vehicles towed from the accident scene.
The accident took place outside Open Doors Academy, with response by Stanley Police and Fire as well as Boyd EMS, but no medical transport. A water tender was on site due to initial reports of fire.
Keith Allen Ives, age 50 of Stanley, was traveling south on Broadway Street when he struck a vehicle legally parked on the curb on the west side of North Broadway.
A Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) administered at the scene ruled out alcohol, the accident cause attributed to failure to control. A juvenile passenger received bruising beneath her right eye but did not require medical transport, no other injuries were reported.
“No one was transported,” Boyd-Edson-Delmar Fire and EMS Chief Ron Patten confirmed Monday. With further details contained in the official accident report, the accident happened when the vehicle driver reached down to grab an item and veered to the right, striking an unoccupied vehicle that was legally parked at the curb. The impact caused the Buick Rendezvous to move forward and strike a silver aluminum Mazda CX-5, resulting in minor functional damage to the rear.
After Ives struck the first vehicle the Jeep he was driving rolled on its side, the driver’s side window being shattered in the process. Both the white Buick and Ive’s vehicle were towed from the scene by Breezy Acres, with Ives receiving a citation for inattentive driving.
Stanley Fire Captain Nathan Samplawski shared more on the accident.
“At 1:09 p.m. we were dispatched for a two vehicle accident with one starting on fire on North Broadway,” he said. “Upon arrival we had observed a SUV on its side across Broadway. There was no fire upon arrival. Occupants of the rolled vehicle we out of the SUV before we arrived.” Traffic blocks were set up while Stanley Fire cleaned up debris before clearing the scene around 2 p.m.
