City Shop Building to receive improved drainage system

Alderperson Mark Fitzsimmons addressed the Stanley City Council on June 17 to recommend that the newly renovated Public Works shop receive gutters and downspouts from The Gutterman, LLC. at the price of $3,350.00. Fitzsimmons shared that instead of draining water to the back of the building as was previously done, the building would be split with water going to the east and the west where downspouts would draw it away from the current building, thus providing a better drainage system. “It’ll be an improvement for the overall project.” He further explained that it is in their best interest to move forward with proper draining in order to maintain the building and the wall.
“We’ve got to preserve the rest of the building, we can’t afford to build a new one,” commented Fitzsimmons. “Pretty much simple as that.”
The council approved The Gutterman proposal of $3,350.00 along with the final payment to Scenic Ridge in the amount of $38,990.00 after the completion of the city shop project.
The council voted to solicit bids for the painting of the exterior of the building. Fitzsimmons explained that they want to paint the exterior of the building with the same type of product as was recently painted on the fire station building. He added that it will be painted the same color as well in order to “keep our buildings uniform.”
Fitzsimmons mentioned that all outdoor colored trim, doors, and interior trim would be painted and the only thing that won’t be painted will be the overheads. The council voted to also receive bids for painting the interior of the building.
“We do definitely need to have it coated and sealed,” Fitzsimmons commented that moisture could penetrate into the blocks and painting it will preserve the block that is currently there.
Sidewalk and curb will soon be replaced in front of Stanley businesses, Broadway Home and Hazuga’s True Value, along with sidewalk replacement from County Hwy X to 1st Avenue at a cost of $5,488.00. The city will cover the costs for curb replacement and half of the costs associated with the sidewalk replacement in front of those two businesses. Broadway Home will pay $5,006 of the replacement costs while the city will pay $7,454.00 and Hazuga’s True Value will pay $9,686 with the city’s portion at $18,866. The council decided to extend a payment deadline of six months to the Hazuga’s True Value and Broadway Home to allow the businesses to pay their portions.
“I want to move it forward, I want to get it done,” said Mayor Mike Henke.
The Stanley Fire Station will also have steps and sidewalk replaced at a cost of $3,410. Stanley Fire Chief Korey Hagenson addressed the council to mention that they intend to rent out the fire station building for events and requested that the curbs outside of the fire station building are allowed to be painted for Fire Fighter Parking Only .
“When we rent it out everybody parks up tight to the building and then it gives us no place to park,” Hagenson said. He added that mirror hangers would be in the vehicles of fire fighters for identification. “It would give us an area to park.” The council voted to allow the curbs outside of the fire station building to be painted for fire fighter parking only.
