The Town of Thorp will host a tire collection on Saturday, October 5th at the town’s garbage and recycling collection site but residents may notice that prices have risen from the previous year’s prices. “We gotta go competitive with everybody else,” explained Supervisor Bob Kodl. “We don’t make money on this.”
The Board approved the following prices for October 5th collection, noting that rims will not be accepted with the tires.
$5.00 for car tires
$6.00 for light truck tires
$10.00 for skid steer tires
$20.00 for large trucks or semi-truck tires
$40.00 and up for tractor tires (depending on size)

At the Town of Thorp board meeting on September 11th, Kodl updated the board on reports of individuals damaging the road with ATVs. Kodl said that after receiving a phone call from a concerned citizen about the damage happening on Pine Road, they confronted a juvenile involved, who then “jumped on the four-wheeler and took off.” Kodl contacted the Sheriff’s Department and talked with the juvenile’s family. The following day, the juvenile was seen repairing the road with a rake. In a separate incident, Kodl encountered two additional ATV juvenile drivers causing damage to the road. After speaking with them, Kodl discovered the minors were from out of town.
“It’s been good since,” said Kodl.
The Town Board decided to send a letter and permit application to a resident who recently replaced a culvert on his property, requiring the application to be returned with a $25 fee, as mandated by state ordinance.
“He needs to get a culvert permit,” said Chairman Louie Andruskiewicz. “Everybody has to follow the same regulations.”
“If one’s got to pay, they all have to,” agreed Kodl, noting that state statutes require everyone to obtain permits and pay a fee for installing or replace a culvert.
“It says right in our ordinance, ‘a permit is also required for the replacement of a culvert.’ It’s in our ordinance, too,” Clerk Arlene Kodl added.

New Town Hall Construction Update
A loan for the new building construction has been secured with Forward Bank with funds available to be transferred as needed. Henry Berry of Ratsch Engineering met with the Board on September 18th to discuss the progress of construction for the new town hall. Construction had been delayed on the new building as the Board awaited sanitary permit approval. Clerk Arlene Kodl announced that the permit was approved but they hadn’t received a copy. Construction is now progressing with plumbing installed by McQuillan Plumbing and flooring set to be poured soon.
