Independence Day Celebration Saturday at Chapman Park

Now in its third year, an Independence Day Celebration is coming to Chapman Park on Saturday July 6.
Started by Tom Larson of Reclaimed Tavern and done in conjunction with the STPR Inc., the annual July event sees gates open at 3 p.m.
Among the many attractions at this year’s Independence Day Celebration are the following:
• Bike Raffle
• Axe Throwing
• Laser Tag
•Mini Golf
• Several Bounce Houses
•Face Painting
•Glitter Tattoos
•Tensile Braiding, and
•A Duck Pond
Kids events are free, while food vendors and beer tent tickets will cost money.
“All the kids events are free,” Larson shared recently.
Also taking place will be a craft show and bean bag tournament. Food vendors will be present, with music on the main stage by Eric Dahl (3 p.m.), Ben Goettl (4 p.m.), and the Vibes from 6 p.m. onwards. The event will have free hot dogs sponsored by STPR, free Cotton candy made on site by the police department, and 60 gallons of ice cream sponsored by Debbie’s on Broadway (all until supplies run out.)
Also taking place will be Lego Wars from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., a truck raffle drawing on the main stage at 7 p.m., and a flag folding ceremony at 9 p.m. At 9:50 p.m. local Legion and VFW will present the colors followed with a 21-gun salute. Coming 10 p.m., it’s fireworks time!
One important note on those, however: absolutely no personal fireworks are allowed at the Independence Day Celebration. With extra money in this year’s budget for the officially sanctioned show, they won’t be needed. Set to music and having the theme of ‘a night at the movies,’ the fireworks should be spectacular. Come and enjoy the show!
