Continuing the Legion Baseball season, Stanley-Boyd has secured a home field victory 7-4 against Cadott.
Meeting at Oriole Park Thursday June 27, the game started out on a good note, Stanley-Boyd leading Cadott with three runs in the bottom of the first.
Come the second, they increased this with another run, Cadott scoring two runs in the top of the third to bring things 4-2 Stanley-Boyd.
Answering this with a run in the bottom of the third and two in the fourth, the score stood 7-2 Cadott, the guest team scoring one run each in the fifth and seventh innings to bring the game 7-4 Stanley-Boyd.
As to game plays, they included a fly ball to third baseman Grant Dusick in the top of the first for the first out of the first inning, steal of third base by JJ Heller in the bottom of the first, steal of second base by Dawson Ewer in the bottom of the 4th, and throw by Deven Parker to Koeben Wundrow for an out at second in the seventh. Wundrow also caught a fly ball to second base in the seventh inning, closing out the game. Coach Jake Tiry shared his thoughts on the season thus far.
“The legion team has done what we wanted it to,” he said. “It gave our kids a jumping stone so they are playing some ball over the summer, to keep honing in on their skills that they learned during the high school season. It also rewards them by playing a little more fun, not quite as serious as I try to get everyone involved in some way shape or form. I’m proud as I have a core 11 players that always show up and then I have some that work around their summer schedules, work or family vacations that may be going on. We lost our first three games but we were in them and now won 2 of our last three. Next year, as long as I am getting the same commitment plan on expanding to have them play in a tournament or two as well. I want to personally thank the Stanley (Post 112) and Boyd Legion (Post 326) for giving us this opportunity for the kids and to bring summer baseball for our older high school age kids back to the Stanley-Boyd Area.”
With the ball games scheduled through the month of July, there’s still time to cheer on the Legion team.
