In one week, students will once again walk the halls of the Stanley-Boyd schools where they will embark on fresh journeys of learning, growth, and discovery. Central to this transformative process are the incredible educators who dedicate their lives to nurturing young minds. Their passion, commitment and creativity shape the academic success of their students and inspire a love for learning that extends far beyond the classroom. For Nathan Steinmetz returning to the Stanley-Boyd School District as the Athletic Director and High School Dean of Students, has been a pleasant homecoming. Steinmetz has worked in education for fourteen years, previously teaching in Stanley-Boyd for eight years as a fourth-grade teacher and later as the Director of Online Learning. After leaving Stanley-Boyd School, Steinmetz accepted the position of assistant principal in the middle/high school in Ladysmith before becoming the elementary principal there for three years. From there Steinmetz went to the Cadott School District where he was the high school principal for one year.
Steinmetz shared why he chose to return to Stanley-Boyd. “I started my educational career here and left to get experience in administration. I have always wanted to come back because it is where I feel at home.” He adds, “The staff here is amazing and welcomes you with open arms.”
After graduation, Steinmetz obtained his computer networking and programming degree from Century College. He then pursued a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, followed by a master’s degree in Administration and Director of Instruction. Steinmetz explains that he became an educator because he enjoys witnessing the achievements of the students.
“I like working with kids and seeing what they accomplish.” When asked if he always wanted to be an educator, Steinmetz answers honestly, “I either wanted to work on computers or be a teacher. I did both and liked teaching more. If I was not in education, I would work in the tech industry.”
In his brief intervals of spare time, Steinmetz enjoys fishing with his family, especially at his favorite spot on the Chippewa Flowage in Hayward. Steinmetz and his wife and two children also love to travel and visit extended family.
“Both my wife and I love watching the kids react to new places. When they first saw the mountains, they could not believe how big they were or when they first swam in the ocean, the shock on their faces was priceless,” Steinmetz shared. Steinmetz also enjoys watching and playing sports, being outdoors, and building things. He mentions that his favorite sport is basketball, but his favorite team depends on the season. “I like the Packers, Bucks, Brewers, and Badgers,” he says. Steinmetz is well-versed in sports, having played football, basketball, and baseball during his school years and he brings extensive coaching experience to the table, having previously led teams across all seasons, including middle school football, JV and C-Team and middle school basketball, and JV baseball. “I enjoy helping the kids and watching their progress throughout the year,” he says. Currently, Steinmetz coaches various Little League teams and is one of the coaches for the Happy Hoops Basketball program for students in first through third grade. He mentions that his students have taught him how to “be patient.”
Steinmetz wants parents to know that he will “always have the best interest of the kids in mind when making decisions.” For the upcoming school year, Nathan is looking forward to meeting the new students and helping them be successful. He is poised to enhance the athletic programs and student support services at Stanley-Boyd and his leadership promises to inspire excellence and create a vibrant, thriving school culture. Steinmetz is dedicated to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student feels supported and valued. As we welcome a new school year, it’s essential to recognize and celebrate the profound impact dedicated professionals, like Nathan Steinmetz, have on the future of our children and our local communities.
