Ordinances for ATV/UTV routes and electric charging stations are approved

At the Monday evening meeting, the City Council approved an ordinance for electric vehicle charging stations. The ordinance describes that private and public charging stations are permitted if they follow the specified rules regarding parking, equipment, usage fees, posted information, and maintenance.
City Administrator Nicole Pilgrim explained to the council that currently there are vehicle charging stations on private property, specifically Courtesy Auto and RESCO, in the City of Stanley and the city must have an ordinance regarding the stations. She added that the Stanley Fire Department must also be made aware of where they are located for safety.
Pilgrim then provided the Council with the updated ATV/UTV ordinance regarding ATV/UTV use within city limits. The Council had previously voted to allow ATV/UTV use on city streets but not on city property or in city park property, specifically mentioning Chapman Park.
Alderperson Mark Fitzsimmons mentioned that he received feedback concerning the Stanley Truck Pull and Rodeo events where ATVs and UTVs are used in Chapman Park for those events. The Council discussed possibly adding approval to event contracts in the future but currently permission to drive ATVs and UTVs on city park property must be received from Police Chief Lance Weiland.
The council discussed where individuals would be able to drive the ATVs and UTVs, specifically naming the city’s brush area,
“We want people to be able to go into the brush area with their ATVs,” said Alderperson Jacob Huff.
“That’s not our street,” Pilgrim informed the council when a council member commented on granting permission for the street by the Stanley-Boyd School parking lot that connects Fourth Avenue to First Avenue.
“It’s an extension of the school parking lot,” said Weiland.
Fitzsimmons motioned “to approve the ordinance 2024-012 amending the 10-3-7 Snowmobile and ATV/UTV routes and trails designated with designation of no UTV/ATV routes through city park properties.”
The council unanimously approved the ordinance.
