Stanley Council Approves Contract with Chippewa Humane Association

The Stanley Council approved a contract with the Chippewa Humane Association (CHA) beginning January 1, 2025, at an annual cost of $2,418.25. The cost is based on the per capita of the city excluding the prison. Police Chief Lance Weiland explained that while the collaboration with the Cadott Animal Clinic has been positive, it would be in the best interest of the City of Stanley to partner with the Chippewa Humane Association as the Cadott Animal Clinic is busy from the other services they provide and the other cities they serve.
“We have no additional cost other than the upfront annual contract,” Weiland commented.
He mentioned that this year the Police Department has taken in approximately twenty-five to thirty strays.
“It happens quite a bit,” Weiland commented. He appreciates that the CHA operates on an as needed basis. “The nice thing is there’s really no questions asked if we can’t get the owner claimed.”
In addition to police officers, local residents are also able to surrender animals if they encounter strays. The CHA will also provide an option to surrender cats, addressing the current lack of resources for feline care in the area.
