America’s largest youth development organization, 4-H gives children “a voice to express who they are and how they make their lives and communities better.” Reaching almost six million youth, 4-H provides opportunities to learn skills to last them a lifetime. Members of the Edson Hilltop 4-H Club led by leaders Andrea Mahr and Erin Plombon have been practicing and learning skills that were put to good use at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair from July 10-14. The fairgrounds buzzed with excitement as these talented young 4-H enthusiasts showcased their hard work, dedication, and skills across a variety of events.
“We had a very successful fair. It was so fun to see so many members participating and showcasing their talents and their hard work!” said Mahr. She went on to share the results of the week’s events. “The first show of the week was Swine - starting before the fair on Tuesday morning. Members representing our club were Natalie and Kaitlin Liszewski, Avery Mahr, Bentley Wilichowski, Olivia Overgard, Timothy Kenealy, Kendall Knox, and Teryn Close. Our club had six top blues out of 10 classes. Since five were sale eligible, we had five pigs, shown from frou members out on Champion Drive. Bentley Wilichowski got top beginner showman for swine, and also received Reserve Champion Carcass and Grand Champion Beginner Total Performance.”
Teryn Close earned Reserve Champion, while Kendall Knox had both pigs in Champion drive. Olivia Overgard and Avery Mahr both had their pigs in Champion drive.
Wednesday was a busy day with beef showing in the morning and sheep in the afternoon. Starting with the beef showing, Mahr explained, “Members representing our club were Delton Kenealy, James and Avery Mahr, Kylee Seidl, Jacob Haas, Matilda Roycraft, Ryleigh, Teryn Close, as well as Keatton and Emmett Breuch. We had two members make it to Champion drive - James Mahr and Matilda Roycraft. Matilda Roycraft got Grand Champion Steer, Top Junior Showman, and Reserve Champion Total Performance.”
Mahr continued to explain the events for Wednesday afternoon mentioning that members representing the club that were showing sheep were Breckin and Kinsely Burzynski, Emmett Breuch, Natalie and Kaitlin Liszewski, and Adeline and Lydia Peterson. She shared that Emmett Breuch took home Top Junior Showman that afternoon and everyone else placed competitively within their classes.
On Thursday morning the Dairy Show took place with club representatives James and Avery Mahr, Emilee and Annelysse Kramschuster, Olivia Overgard, Delton and Timothy Kenealy, and Lance Kelly. The Edson Hilltop 4-H Club did not disappoint as Olivia Overgard received Reserve Champion Brown Swiss Heifer with her Fall Yearling, Oatmeal, James Mahr received Top Overall Beginner Showman leading his Fall Calf, Raven, and Emilee Kramschuster made it into Champion drive with her winter calf, Firefly.
“Members of the club also exhibited in the youth building,” mentioned Mahr. “All sorts of things from cookies to bee keeping, to music, to art!” She described the members’ projects along with their recognition. “Annelysse Kramschuster crocheted a cool snake and a beautiful blanket that won best of show. Brycelynn Dotson did a wonderful presentation on beekeeping, earning a blue ribbon. Edith Dotson and Hope Ellenbecker both submitted creative and colorful paintings, earning blues. Baylor Goettl submitted a gigantic model farm! He had to create the landscaping and bring all the mini farm displays to place on it, earning a red ribbon. Cooper Kramschuster submitted some delicious blue-ribbon brownies! Emilee Kramschuster earned some blue ribbons on her paracord creation and drawing. Avery Mahr earned all blues on three paintings and a beautiful tie blanket. Joey Mahr earned blues on his paintings and chocolate chip cookies. Henry Plombon earned some blue ribbons on a piano presentation and a very intricate Lego model of an astronaut. Abigail Seidl and Amilee Stark both earned top ribbons on their arts and crafts submissions. Finally, Israella Witt earned top ribbons on her poster about chickens and her cute dog drawing!”
The achievements of the members of the Edson-Hilltop 4-H Club reflects the dedication and hard work they put into their projects, and their success at the fair is a proud moment for their club, their families, and their communities. These accomplished members can return with a sense of accomplishment and pride as they continue their 4-H journey with the same enthusiasm and commitment that made their week at the fair so exceptional. Congratulations to all of the hard workers and their remarkable successes!
